Supporting Parents/carers through this Journey

Working With Schools

I provide play therapy sessions within the child's school, which helps create a familiar and supportive environment for them. These sessions are held in a confidential space at the the same time and day on a weekly basis. The sessions last approximately 50 minutes. Working in the school setting provides opportunities for collaboration with teachers and staff.

I communicate with school staff as appropriate, ensuring that any relevant insights or recommendations can support the child's learning and wellbeing. This collaborative approach helps maintain consistency between the playroom and the school, reinforcing the child's progress and providing a stronger support network.

Review Meetings

Throughout the play therapy journey, I aim to support parents through regular review meetings, typically held every six weeks. These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss any emerging themes from the therapy process while maintaining the child's confidentiality. Specific details of your child's play are not discussed unless there are any safeguarding concerns. A safe, expressive space is essential for your child's growth and well-being.

The review meetings also allow parents to share insights about their child outside the playroom and inform me of any changes or important updates that may influence the therapy process. This collaborative approach helps ensure consistency between the playroom and home environment, supporting your child's overall development.

Endings

Once the ending of the play therapy process has been discussed and planned, I create a countdown for the child (usually around 5 sessions until the end) to help them prepare, as endings are an important part of their therapeutic journey. Parents or carers will receive a final play therapy report, which includes the initial reason for referral, an overview of themes that emerged during the process, and any recommendations for the child's future support.

Parents or carers are also asked if they would like a copy of the report to be shared with the child's school.

Your child is always welcome to return to Glow Within Play Therapy if additional support is needed in the future.
