Alongside my MA in Play Therapy, I completed Level 1 SandStory Therapy training. SandStory Therapy invites children to share their stories through sand, symbols and sensory experience. Some stories emerge through carefully chosen figures, while others unfold through hands moving quietly through the sand.
In this space, emotions can be expressed allowing meaning to surface naturally and at the child's pace. The steady, sensory nature of sand can offer a sense of safety and grounding, supporting children to explore their inner worlds gently and in ways that feel contained and respectful of their experiences.
SandStory Therapy is thoughtfully integrated within my play therapy work, offering an additional, attuned way for children to communicate, process and make sense of their experiences. As with all of my play therapy work, the intention is that the understanding, emotional awareness and inner resources children develop through SandStory therapy are not confined to the playroom. These experiences support children in carrying what they discover in therapy with them as they continue to grow beyond our time together.
